Exactly why does Bartleby always "prefer not to"/ Why cant he make friend ,or communicate? Whats at the heart of his rebellion? Why doesn't he quit and get a different job? Why does the Boss have sympathy for Bartleby? what else in the story seems open to individual readers 'interpretation?
- Bartleby " prefers not to" because he is tired of everything he has been around so much sadness that he feel dead inside . Bartleby cant make friend or communicate because in a way he is dead inside and kind off doesn't have sentiment ,he is so tired of life he is not interested in getting to know anyone or for someone to know about him.Bartleby rebels because he is tired of sadness and cruelty , he is tired of doing whatever he is supposed to do just because its his job . Bartleby doesn't quit and finds another job because he doesn't want to try anything else he is done , he just wants to give up everything. The Boss has sympathy for Bartleby because he sees the sadness of Bartleby, he sees how lonely and how disappointed he is of life.
